Our cause is just and our goals are simple: to deny terrorists safe haven, and equally as important, give the Iraqi people the freedom and ability to govern themselves and rebuild their country. Our enemies oppose efforts to bring democracy to Iraq, because the establishment of Iraq as a self-governing nation that honors the principles of freedom would be a powerful blow to extremist ideology and the conditions that allow it to flourish. My support for our efforts in Iraq is based on what I think is in the long-term best interests of the United States.
Following through on our commitment to Iraq is one of the most important investments we will ever make to provide for the safety of our children and grandchildren.
